Simichrome is great for testing the authenticity of Bakelite items. Firstly, a small amount of Simichrome is rubbed onto the surface with a cotton swab. Secondly, if the polish turns yellow, the piece is Bakelite. Finally, if it remains pink in colour, the piece is not Bakelite.

Using Simichrome on Chrome
